Gautam Gambhir Named Head Coach 2024

Gautam Gambhir, born on 14th October 1981, is a former Indian-International cricketer and Top-Order-Batter. He has been serving as a cricketer since 2003. He played in all formats for India between 2003 and 2016, & he has been the greatest opener of his game span. 

He is currently appointed for the position of the Indian Cricket Team Head Coach. He will be responsible for guiding the team in all 3 formats (Tests, ODI, and T20s) from July 2024 to December 2027. 

As a Head coach, he is expected to take charge of the upcoming series against Sri Lanka in which the Indian team will play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs from 27th July 2024 onwards.

Rahul Dravid, who was appointed as the Head Coach on 3rd November 2021, stepped down from his position on 9th July (Tuesday). Jay Shah shared that Dravid decided to quit this position due to his family commitments. He stated:

“He told me that due to family commitments he wants to quit and we respect his decision. I didn’t force him to extend,”

He added:

“Rahul bhai has served Indian cricket for the past five and half years. He was director of the National Cricket Academy for three years and then for the past two and half years, he served as head coach of Team India.” 

He also mentioned: 

“Rahul Dravid’s role is as important as Rohit Sharma in this T20 World Cup title triumph. He is a man, who took the team to the 2023 ODI World Cup final and didn’t wanted to leave because he wanted to finish the job.”
